City Council Endorses LUCE Strategy Framework

The City Council has endorsed the approach and concepts of the LUCE Strategy Framework with additional recommendations to be studied in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). An updated version of the LUCE that includes modifications to heights and uses in select locations is being prepared and will be posted in the near future.

We appreciate the participation and support for the LUCE process and Strategy Framework that has been expressed by members of the City Council, and the following City Boards & Commissions:

FINAL LUCE PRESENTATION BRIDGES HOUSING, ECONOMIC & ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES FOR CITY'S LONG TERM FUTURE

The community workshop on April 2nd wrapped up the public outreach series on the development of the Land use and Circulation element (LUCE) update. Over 100 residents, members of the business community, and others participated in this event that included economic and policy analysis on the proposals for future modifications to the City's land use districts and transportation strategy. Transportation Workshop Draws Big Crowds, Big ideas from Community

On Saturday, March 1, over 100 Santa Monicans commented on the Circulation Element's plans, programs and policies in a open house format that put them in direct contact with staff and the long-term strategies to improve transportation and mobility in our city. Public Review Draft of the City’s 2008-2014 Housing Element now available!

CEQA Environmental Review: Public Comment Period for Negative Declaration

The City of Santa Monica has prepared an Initial Study and Negative Declaration for the General Plan 2008-2014 Housing Element. The Initial Study has determined that there are no potentially affected environmental factors that would result from adoption of the proposed Housing Element. To download the document, CLICK HERE.

A 30-day public review period for the Negative Declaration will commence on Friday, July 18, 2008 and end on Monday, August 18, 2008. The City of Santa Monica welcomes agency and public comments on the document during this period. Any comments on the Negative Declaration must be received within the public review period. Comments may be submitted, in writing, by 5:30 p.m. on Monday August 18, 2008 and addressed to:

Click here for the Public Review Draft of the City’s Housing Element for the 2008-2014 planning period. The Housing Element is prepared in compliance with State law and includes policies to guide housing production in the city to meet its Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA).

This update also references housing strategies for a longer horizon that reflect the direction of the Land Use & Circulation Element. Hard copies are available for review at all Santa Monica public libraries and copies may be obtained at the City Hall Planning Counter, 1685 Main Street.
